Townsend By-Election, 2 May: Ruth Juett standing for Liberal Democrats
Ruth Juett has been chosen by the local Liberal Democrats to fight the by-election for the Townsend ward of Chesham Town Council, which will be held on Thursday 2 May.
Ruth Has a Record of Action for Townsend and Chesham
Ruth was a Town Councillor for Townsend Ward for three years up to 2015. During that time:
- Ruth was keenly involved in the Lib Dem fight for a residents' parking scheme in Chesham, including several roads in Townsend. The scheme finally started in 2017 and it's been great for residents in Townsend Road, Sunnyside Road, Higham Road, Victoria Road, Gladstone Road and Queens Road. Ruth wants to keep working to improve the scheme to make life easier for residents in other nearby roads.
- Ruth set up the Victoria Road Residents' Association to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area and is still chair of the association. Residents of the flats had many issues and concerns around security and anti-social behaviour from young people, who were easily able to enter the premises owing to the lack of security locks at the entrances. Ruth arranged for meetings with Paradigm Housing Association to sort out the problems.
- Ruth campaigned successfully to get the pedestrian safety barriers adjusted at the end of Parrotts path in Bellingdon Road so that people in wheelchairs or with double buggies could get through. She will continue to fight for accessibility rights for all.
Thanks to Ruth, wheelchairs can get through here now
Ruth fought hard to get potholes filled, roads and pavements resurfaced, and road signs replaced
Ruth is a volunteer adviser with Chiltern Citizens Advice Bureau in Townsend Road. She is also on the steering group for Chesham Fairtrade.
