Walid Marzouk, Chair of Chiltern Liberal Democrats writes:

I am absolutely delighted with our local results and massively grateful for the hard work of our executive and the many Lib Dem volunteers who came out in strength to help.

On behalf of our committed and loyal members, we wish to send big congratulations to Catherine Bearder, Antony Hook and Judith Bunting, who are our 3 Lib Dem MEPs for the South East.

Nationally, we increased our number of seats in the European Parliament from 1 to a massive 16, making us the second largest party in this election, in which we took 20.3% of the votes.

2019 European election count

L-r: Dee Kirby, Walid Marzouk and Vera Head outside the local count.

London Lib Dems came first with 27.2% of the vote and Chiltern Lib Dems came in with one of the highest percentage votes at 31.9%, beating The Brexit Party and pushing the Conservatives into 4th place.

The turn-out locally was 48.5%, compared with 40% at the last EU elections. The clear Remain parties, led by the Chiltern Lib Dems, won 50.7% of the vote.

Now so much more is known about the biggest ever act of national self-harm called BREXIT, attitudes seem to have strengthened in favour of remaining in the EU, and the Government has no mandate to take us out without a People's Vote. BRING IT ON!
