The HS2 fight continues:  local residents say no to HS2 temporary roundabout at Little Missenden

December 16, 2020 3:43 PM

Anyone thinking that it is all over with HS2 is mistaken. Problems to the environment and the public will continue for years and so will our fight to mitigate their impact. Alan Bacon and Selina Kerr

Local residents are alarmed by a current proposal from HS2 and Align to build a temporary roundabout by the Little Missenden Vent Shaft located just by the A413, between Keepers Lane and Mop End Lane. Yet another example of poor planning and consultation by HS2 and its contractors.

Residents from surrounding areas say it would create chaos and suffocate Hyde Heath, Little Missenden and surrounding villages

Chiltern Liberal Democrats have worked with local resident groups and is supporting them in their efforts to make Align, HS2 and the Conservative led Council listen.

To this end, we conducted an on-line survey of residents and the response revealed overwhelming opposition to the proposed roundabout with 85% saying they were against the proposal. And of those 85%, 66% said they were very strongly opposed to the proposal.

The survey also revealed that 76% of respondents are supportive of a permanent roundabout at the Chiltern Hospital junction, thus solving the HS2 problem and also getting rid of the dangerous junction which has witnessed many accidents

Liberal Democrat Councillor Peter Jones said:

"It is obvious to anyone familiar with the local area that if there needs to be a roundabout it should be at the junction of the A413 and London Road from Great Missenden, near the Chiltern Hospital. Siting the roundabout at the beginning of the dual carriageway is so stupid that it defies rational argument."

Liberal Democrat Councillor Alan Bacon has made his opposition clear at a number of meeting he attended recently and shared the full survey results with local councillors, Bucks Council and Align.

Chiltern Liberal Democrats believe Align and the Conservative led Council cannot ignore such clear opposition to the current proposal and MUST undertake proper evaluation of alternatives BEFORE action is taken.
