Opposition to HS2 temporary roundabout at Little Missenden – residents’ voices finally heard
Liberal Democrat Councillor for Chiltern Ridges, Alan Bacon
2 February 2021
In December we reported how local residents were alarmed by a proposal from HS2 and Align to build a temporary roundabout by the Little Missenden Vent Shaft located just by the A413, between Keepers Lane and Mop End Lane. Yet another example of poor planning and consultation by HS2 and its contractors. Residents from surrounding areas said it would create chaos and suffocate Hyde Heath, Little Missenden and surrounding villages.
Chesham and Amersham Liberal Democrats worked with local resident groups to make Align, HS2 and the Conservative led Council listen. A comprehensive on-line survey* of residents was conducted in November and this revealed overwhelming opposition to the proposed roundabout with 85% saying they were against the proposal.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Alan Bacon has made his opposition clear at several meetings he attended and shared the full survey results with local councillors, Bucks Council and Align. Buckinghamshire Council has now refused permission to build the temporary roundabout at Little Missenden and the Council is now working with HS2/Align to identify safer and more acceptable alternatives to access the vent shaft. This is excellent news for local residents who have finally had their voices heard.
Details of Buckinghamshire Council decision can be found here.
