Chesham and Amersham deserves better

By Selina Kerr, Liberal Democrats Unitary Candidate for Chalfont St Peter

In a comprehensive on-line survey, we asked residents what mattered most to them and how satisfied they were with Buckinghamshire Council and the services it provides.

We heard from residents across the constituency including people from the Chilterns, the Chalfonts and Missenden. What we learnt is that local people, regardless of location and political opinion expect far more from Buckinghamshire Council in terms of the services they provide.

When asked to rate their current satisfaction level with key council services, many of the ratings given are really very poor and others just about average.

Maintenance of roads, pavements and lighting gets a score of 4 out of 10. Hardly surprising given the plethora of potholes across the county. And critical services such as Planning and Housing don't even get a score higher than 5 out of 10 reflecting the huge frustration and annoyance of many residents with these services. Adult Social Care services which so many people rely on only achieve a rating of 5.5 out of 10.

We strongly believe the people of Amersham and Chalfont deserve better and the only way to secure this is to ensure this Conservative led Council which currently controls more than 75% of all seats is held to account at the next Local Elections. The Liberal Democrats are committed to improving critical council services. You can help us achieve that by supporting our candidates on May 6th.
