Chesham & The Local Plan – Where next?

April 23, 2021 9:16 PM
By Ruth Juett, Unitary Candidate for Chess Valley

Lye GreenAfter five years of uncertainty, the Local Plan has been withdrawn by Buckinghamshire Council. That is good news because the proposals to build nearly 1000 new homes on the Green Belt at Lye Green were wrong on so many levels.

Buckinghamshire Council is now working on a new Local Plan, and we must work to make sure that they get this one right. Liberal Democrats are worried about losing even more Green Belt.

In a survey of Chesham & Amersham residents conducted in 2020, protection of the Green Belt was one of the highest priorities for people. Instead of ruining our Green Belt, the Lib Dems will work with Buckinghamshire Council to take forward the ideas in the original Chesham Masterplan.

Where there is a need and there is public support, we will push for housing on brownfield sites and ensure the appropriate infrastructure is built to support any increase in housing.
